Smart Fridge

The latest innovation in the world of vending machines

Have you ever heard of smart fridges or intelligent fridges or freezers? No wonder - this new type of vending machine has only been available on the European market for a few weeks. In view of its potential, it is worth taking a closer look at this innovative type of vending machine now.

What are smart fridges?

In purely visual terms, smart fridges are reminiscent of the refrigerated shelves you see in the supermarket. However, our appliances contain much more technology than conventional refrigeration systems. Put simply, smart fridges are refrigerators with an integrated weighing function and built-in payment system

How it works:

  • Hold a debit card or smartphone with Google Pay/Apple Pay to the smart fridge's card terminal and authorize payment
  • After authorizing the payment method, the Smart Fridge opens the door
  • The customer can now take out all the products they want The Smart Fridge uses integrated sensors to recognize which products have been removed and in what quantity.
  • The payment method used is now charged according to the number of products removed.

We currently offer three different versions: a compact version of the Smart Fridge, a larger version with an extended capacity and a model with an integrated freezer function - the Smart Freezer, as the name suggests.

The impact on the vending machine market

Traditional vending machines have existed for many decades and have hardly changed - you select the desired product by entering the product number and insert the corresponding amount of money, whereupon the product is dispensed by means of (usually) spirals. Innovations have largely failed to materialize, apart from minor innovations such as the acceptance of cashless payment or the development of more gentle dispensing mechanisms.

Smart fridges are a completely new approach and have the potential to replace conventional vending machines in the long term. However, it will certainly be a few years before that happens.

Conclusion

Smart Fridges could soon become the new standard in the German vending machine landscape.
Early adopters of this innovative technology will not only secure a competitive advantage, but will also benefit from more efficient processes, a better customer experience and new sales potential.
