Selling raw milk from the vending machine:

We explain what you need to look out for.

Raw milk vs. pasteurized milk?

More and more people are interested in natural and unprocessed foods. The difference between raw milk and pasteurized milk is that pasteurized milk has been heated at high temperatures to kill potential germs and preserve the milk.

However, essential nutrients are lost during this process, making pasteurized milk less nutritious than raw milk. In addition, raw milk is perceived by many people as having a more natural and richer taste.

What needs to be considered when selling?

Raw milk is subject to strict legal regulations, as it also harbors risks, e.g. from possible germs.

  • Raw milk may only be dispensed at the dairy farm (the vending machine may not be located at another site, even if this is also part of the farm)
  • A clearly visible sign "Raw milk, boil before consumption" must be attached to the vending machine
  • The milk may only be dispensed on the day it is collected or the next day
  • The milk may be stored at a maximum temperature of 4 °C
  • There must be a sink with a drinking water connection next to the vending machine
  • The sale of raw milk must be reported to the competent authority

The advantages of selling raw milk from the vending machine.

The sale of raw milk is a special case for which, in theory, no business needs to be registered, as it is the sale of a product from the first processing stage.

In addition, the sale takes place between the producer and the customer, without an intermediary who also wants a share of the sales revenue.
